Experimentally added Findarticles articles, via the URL…
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_*/is_*/ai_*/
Also with an excluding URL that removes everything except the first page of an article (i.e.: not indexing page 2, 3, 4, 5… of an article, nor the pages generated for each citation), so as to reduce clutter in the results. I’ve also excluded some ubiquitous newspapers such as Deseret News and wire services such as Business Wire.
This risks bringing in some press releases, in the newspapers and professional journals that are available on FindArticles. These find their way into the archive via verbatim republication by lazy journalists. Some fluffy journalistic op-ed articles will also be brought in. But for relatively targeted academic searches it seems to be worth it. The benefit it brings to JURN is in the form of articles drawn from a pool of over a million articles.
What about the paywall? Well, findarticles.com articles currently appear to be free, and I can’t find any article appearing in JURN’s results that asks for a payment. Of course, this may change and so I’ll be keeping an eye on: i) how findarticles.com distorts (or not) the search results, and ii) signs of any return to having half the articles behind a paywall. Please let me know if you start seeing paywalled findarticles.com articles showing up in JURN’s results.
Experiment with FindArticles is over. Maybe I’ll add them on a per-journal basis in the future.
